Colonel Nigel Knocker OBE WO WKhM

Updated: Feb 25, 2023

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Colonel Nigel Knocker OBE WO

WKhM on the evening of Tuesday 21 February 2023. He died at home with Angela at

his side. He was 92.

Nigel needs no introduction. His military career in, and subsequent links with, Oman

span more than fifty years of loyal and dedicated service.

Commanding Officer of Desert Regiment between 1971-73, and the driving force behind

Operation Simba; Defence Attaché from 1977 to 1980; and three years on the staff of

CDS - General Sir Tim Creasey - in the mid 1980s.

His deep love for Oman transferred itself full time to the Association after he retired. He

edited the Journal from 1990 until 2019, and was Chairman from 1994 until 2017.

His commitment was exceptional and he also devoted much time to the Anglo-Omani

Society - initially as a Trustee and then as its Vice-President from 2018.

COSSAF and Fareeq Ahmed Harith have been advised of Nigel’s death and have

expressed their deepest sympathy. Our thoughts are with Angela, Fiona and Jonathan.

There will be a private cremation for family only, but Angela is planning a memorial

service to be held fairly soon thereafter. The details will be published here, on the

website, once confirmed.
