Major Steve Cary

We are sorry to report that Steve Cary died from a heart attack on the 16th December 2021.


He served in the Parachute Regiment on a short service commission during the 1960s before returning to Rhodesia in 1969. He served in the RLI and RhA until 1979 and then first arrived in Oman in 1983. He initially joined KJ as OC support company and then moved to Aydim training centre. He subsequently was appointed

Chief Instructor at SAFTR before ending his first spell in Oman back at Aydim as Chief Instructor of support weapons wing. He left SAF in 1987 bound for South Africa but then returned to Oman the following year to SSF initially as training officer and latterly as 2ic 1 SSF. He served in SSF until 1998 and then returned to South Africa to set up his own business in Cape Town. He retired to the UK in 2016.


A memorial service to celebrate Steve's life will be held at 2:00pm on 20 January 2022 at:

Gershwin Road

Brighton Hill

Basingstoke RG22 4HL
