Pamela, wife of Major Peter Felton, Commander Force Transport Regiment, was the matron of Nizwa Hospital, where, starting in the early 1970s she worked for over 10 years. Pam was regarded as a highly trained nurse, who contributed greatly to the health and wellbeing of Omani families, particularly in the field of midwifery, where her expertise saved many a life.
Pam worked closely with Dr Mohammed Afifi who together, and through the Ministry of Health,
were able to make significant improvements to healthcare in the Nizwa District. In 1985 Pam was featured in the Diplomatic and Overseas New Years Honours List where she was awarded the MBE
for nursing services to the community of Oman.
Many Omani medics have attributed their choice of their career to Pam, who facilitated their
learning and encouraged them to pursue a career in nursing and medicine, for which they are ever grateful.
Although Pam’s work was based in Nizwa, she spent significant time in Muaskar Al Murtafa’a (MAM) Camp, where she made many lifelong friends and always took an avid interest in their welfare. Pam and Peter retired to Spain, where Pam nursed Peter during his final years. One of her great pleasures was catching up on the news in the SAF Journal and hearing about the many exploits of the members. Pam enjoyed life, the company of her cats and dogs, to the full, and will be fondly remembered for her intelligent, inquisitive mind, her wonderful, humorous personality but most of all her care and compassion for others. She passed away in Spain during February 2025.
