The Committee

There have been very few changes to the Association's committee in recent years and as we look to the future we are in need of new faces to take us forward. I am very pleased to welcome Matthew Wright to the Committee and look forward to working with him.

Matt is an Arabist and former Army Officer. He served in the Sultan’s Armed Forces in 2017-21. He was the UK’s first student to attend the Command and Staff College in Beit Al-Falaj before commanding the Loan Service Team in Dhofar where he advised the Commandant at KSQA, Aidem, in the Wilayat of Rakhyut.

After reading Arabic at Durham and the University of Damascus, Matt completed a Masters in International Relations in the Middle East. He then attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst before commissioning into the Welsh Guards with whom he served as a Platoon Commander in Helmand Province. He was then seconded as a linguist to 22 SAS in the Levant.

Prior to Oman, Matt served as the Temporary Equerry to Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall from 2015-17.

On conclusion of his tour in Oman, Matt left the Army to join Baillie Gifford, the investment management firm headquartered in Edinburgh.
