Wing Commander Kerry Drew WKhM, SOAF and RAFO 1973-1990

We greatly regret the oversight that led to the omission of a photograph to accompany Kerry Drew’s obituary in this year’s Journal. However, Jutta has recently very generously offered a much-treasured collection from which we have compiled this tribute to Kerry.

We are very grateful to Jutta for sharing them with us. We hope they will stir some memories of great times served together for all those who knew Kerry and Jutta over such an extended period in Oman.

Louise (Lulu) Carrington tribute

Louise is the daughter of Dick Carrington (see obituary) and Angie Carrington. She wrote this tribute to Kerry on Facebook.

The first time I remember meeting Kerry, he was dressed as an oversized garden gnome. (See photo above). The next day at the crack of dawn he took me, aged 12, flying in his Skyvan over Dhofar and let me take the controls. He became my pen pal for many lonely years at boarding school and all the way through uni. My heart would always leap on the mornings when a blue airmail envelope with his distinctive ink handwriting was sticking out of my mail box. Sometimes it would include cut out cartoons, sometimes there would be stickers or stamps, always the latest wicked jokes and stories of his flying adventures in Salalah and later HK, then retirement in Portugal. In recent years, he had struck up a correspondence with my youngest son. His last letter arrived on our doorstep shortly after the news of his passing. Kerry, you were one of a kind, and one of the warmest human beings I have ever known. We will all miss you so very much.
